I have to tell you about something awful that happened to Monty, my dear lab friend. And I tell you and all your followers this sad tale so that you can learn and spread the word.
Monty was playing bitey face with his pal who got his lower jaw stuck in Monty's choke chain collar. Both dogs reacted by pulling and twisting in a frenzy of fear. I don't think I need to go any further with this story. All I can say is that my dear friend Monty, who is only 2 weeks younger than I am, is waiting at The Bridge.
Please, all dog owners: NEVER, ever use a choke chain collar except for training. NEVER leave a dog alone with one on or let your dog play with another dog who is wearing one. Also, don't EVER let your dog play with a harness on or let your dog play with another dog wearing one. Paws & legs get stuck in them.

Fenway! That is just awful. Yes, we are most careful and never ever wear anything but our buckle collars when we are playing and sometimes not even those. This was hard to read, but important for you to post.

That is such a sad, sad story, Fenway. We are so very sorry that Monty ended up going to the Bridge so very young. We will remember your advice although we don't use either a choke chain or a harness at the moment.
Thanks for telling us that Fenway. That is so horrible and I'm so sorry for the loss of Monty. I had never even thought about it but I see how it could happen now..since it did happen. Again, I am so very sorry..that is so sad.
Fenway - what a horrible story. That being said - thank you for sharing it. It's always good to remind folks. Play safe! - Abbey
Hi Fenway,
I'm so sorry about your friend. It's heartbreaking. I had heard of that happening to another dog, but he got rescued in time. However, he was forever enemies with the other dog involved after that, and they had been best friends. We all wear harnesses when we go camping. Now we will be extra alert and cautious. Thanks for the warning.
Kisses,
Emma Rose

Oh Fenway I am so sorry to hear about your friend Monty. We never wear choke chains but we see dogs at the dog park wearing them all the time and our person worries about it a lot. This is terrible. Our thoughts go out to Monty's family. Thanks for reminding us about this hazard.
Your friend,
Niamh

Oh dear!! Thanks for the caution Fenway, though we don't use any of those.. So sad to hear about this. It is just so unfortunate!! :(
Yes, i've seen this happen with martingale type collars with my 2 dogs. One a sibe that used one of those martingale sibe type collars. both my dogs only wear breakaways now. for training they wear a specific training collar. On special occasions a buckle collar, but when left alone, only the breakaways. we were lucky to be home when it happened and able to cut the martingale off the sibe. but it scared the becheeses out of me.
I'm so sorry this happened to a pal. what a dreadful thing to witness from the other doggie and the human who found it...
sigh.
